The Art of Gustav Vigeland

Gustav Vigeland (11 April 1869 – 12 March 1943) was a famous and controversial Norwegian sculptor. Vigeland occupies a special position among Norwegian sculptors, both in the power of his creative imagination and in his productivity. He is most associated with Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo. The park contains 192 sculptures in granite and bronze, with more than 600 figures. The museum—housed in the building originally erected as studio and home—includes some 1,600 sculptures, 12,000 drawings and 400 woodcuts. His work, typically featuring nude human figures in sometimes intimate but always emotionally charged poses, generated controversies as massive as the sculptures themselves. He was also the designer of the Nobel Peace Prize medal.

It really is amazing Nia, and to think he created so many sculptures in his short career is really amazing.

That statue is totally bizarre. I never would have known it existed if it wasn’t for you. Wonderful capture of it and I appreciate you sharing it with us.

Thanks for bringing this art here so we could see it. It’s hard for me to imagine that someone actually created something so remarkable.
