On March 19, 1965, Charles Moore’s photograph of a civil rights march in Selma, Alabama was published on the cover of LIFE magazine. As a white, Southern journalist, born and raised in Alabama, he was fighting discrimination the best way he knew how—by taking pictures. He was once quoted as saying “I don’t wanna fight with my fists, I wanna fight with my camera.” Moore had the uncanny ability of being in the right place at the right time and is credited with taking some of the most iconic photographs of the civil rights movement.
Life really was a great magazine fueled by great photographers.
It was indeed. Thanks for the comment.
